Certificate of Compliance (COC) in Gauteng
An electrical Certificate of Compliance (COC) is a legal document confirming your installation meets SANS 10142-1. It is required when a property is sold or transferred, after any new fixed electrical work, and by most insurers. FAQs
Certificate of Compliance (COC): common questions
How long is an electrical COC valid?
Two years, provided no changes or additions were made to the installation after it was issued. Any new fixed work requires a new certificate for that work.
How much does a COC cost in Gauteng?
The inspection and certificate for an average home is typically a few hundred to around a thousand rand; the variable cost is any remedial work needed to make the installation compliant. We quote before we start.
Who is legally responsible for the COC when selling?
The seller must provide a valid COC to the buyer on transfer.
Can you issue a COC for work another electrician did?
We can only certify what we have inspected and tested, and we will only issue once the installation is compliant. Hidden work may need to be opened up for inspection.
Do I need a separate certificate for my electric fence?
Yes. An electric fence system requires its own Electric Fence System Certificate of Compliance, separate from the electrical COC.
